Starting the Autumn Season

As the summer period in the northern hemisphere comes to an end, we start seeing news picking up (August was quiet and/or there was just a lot of recycled articles out there).  In order to wrap up summer 2010 and start entering what should be a busy autumn season, here are some latest highlights that we haven’t covered yet:  Read more »

Online Gambling: The Critical Factors So Far

History shows that human nature tends to be reactive with new stances, innovations ... just anything new.  From prophets persecuted for their teachings, to the introduction of science and the Scientific Method, to even the cell phone assumed to be a ‘passing fad’ ... it is perhaps the animal instinct in most that makes them unreceptive of new ideas and concepts immediately ... a  leftover survival instinct that now hinders our progress in this modern age.  Read more »

Gambling Roller Coaster Ride

Towards the end of last month we had very exciting / positive news take place within our industry.  Now, as we approach the end of our current month, we are back into the normal news that has been more commonplace within online gambling and demonstrates the growing pains that it suffers as it matures into ‘adulthood’.  The following are events that have taken place within the past week:  Read more »

Quite before the storm?

Although there have been numerous articles online since my last post they all seem to gravitate around the same topics and try to take guesses at what will happen next.  It is like a collection of solar systems where the suns in this case represents a few main themes these days: Party/bwin merger, UIGEA / USA regulation, France and EU regulation in general, latest competitions & updates from operators, once in a while Australasia / China gets thrown in there.  Around these suns orbit loads of affiliate sites, news sites, media channels, and blogs that all try to either reproduce old news and make it appears fresh or take their stance on what will happen.   Read more »

A Quiet One: The Week So Far

So since last week’s monumental developments (check out the recent articles found on our site), things seemed to have gotten quiet.  Sure, you can find the occasional bonus article (you know, yet another ‘unique’ content piece trying to convert users to an online casino), and there are a plethora of recycled news materials (yawn ... how many times can one read about what US casinos would do if America regulated), but other than the usual and some small stories, not too much excitement; therefore we will wrap up some highlights of the week here:

PartyGaming has partnered with Evolution Gaming to start offering Live Dealer Casino on their site.  See, so far nothing really interesting.  Read more »

A monumental week in review

As per the articles found this past week, namely ‘Welcome Back PayPal', ‘One Step Closer to US Gambling Legalisation!’, and ‘Titans, but No Clash – PartyGaming & bwin Announce Merger’ an emerging trend can be easily deduced from the events that took place this past week which is online gambling is certainly moving into what  Read more »

Titans, but No Clash – PartyGaming & bwin Announce Merger

This has been truly a very active week for the online gambling industry.  Yesterday we had a monumental development in the form of an online gambling regulatory bill making its way up the US government ladder.  Today, PartyGaming & bwin have announced their plans to merge into a single entity.  Read more »

One Step Closer to US Gambling Legalisation!

In today’s meeting of The House Financial Services Committee, several separate topics were discussed with one of them turning the tide of online gambling as it has been currently perceived in the United States.  Today is the day that the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act (H.R. 2267) passed its first hurdle on the road to US regulation with the committee approving it by voting 41-22 in favor.  It has been well known that this bill has been sponsored by the committee’s chairman, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass) and other groups out there.  After a couple of days of debating and revising the bill, it has been met with some interesting changes:  Read more »

Welcome Back PayPal

Back in the start up days of our industry, there was an ewallet that was popularly used to make deposits and withdrawals to online gambling sites.  This ewallet was one of the more popular choices for gambling online until a very big US based company, named eBay, purchased it in 2002.  And that was the end of using PayPal (the ewallet in question) for betting online.

Since then it is no news that PayPal has barely felt the loss in terms of revenues and global reach.  Propelled forward by it association with eBay, it eventually started becoming the online ewallet of choice.   Read more »
